The Linux System Engineer is responsible for effective installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This position works with customers to help support, tune and improve their servers and systems architecture.  This individual must have proven experience working with highly available distributed environments and must have experience with web, application and database servers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
• Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure systems in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
• Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
• Contribute to and maintain system standards.
• Contribute to and maintain security posture of the system
• Perform periodic overnight maintenances and/or upgrades
• Collaborate with vendors and other team members on projects
• Install and maintain security patches on the operational and development system.
• Provide support per request. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
• Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
• Implement monitoring packages for a wide range of systems
Minimum Qualifications
• Vast knowledge of Linux (Red Hat/CentOS desired)
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science
• At least 10 years in a user facing role, as part of a technical support environment
• Proficiency and ability to perform using at least 1 scripting language on Unix (Python desired)
• Experience using version control systems such as GIT or SVN
• People & customer service skills
• Able to organize work logically.
• Able to define project tasks and coordinate work with other project team members.
• Proven problem solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to research and resolve problems independently using a variety of resources and tools
• Must be a strong team player.
