The Network Engineer is responsible for the operation, implementation, and maintenance of an existing service provider network.   Duties will include network capacity planning, implementing ongoing network architecture improvements in a data center environment, and making internal technology recommendations to management.  Network Engineers work on a team performing both new customer activations, and customer network architecture design and integration.  The Network Engineer will have a strong ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements and to anticipate end-to-end network infrastructure needs. Network Engineers work internally and externally with IT support team(s) and/or partners as part of an IT networking consultancy with client. Network Engineers must possess solid level knowledge in Cisco Networking. The Network Engineer serves as support level for troubleshooting networking issues escalated from the Atomic NOC. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Escalation point for troubleshooting of complex networking related issues in a TAC environment 

  • Architect, design, configure, and install custom infrastructure solutions for Data Center customers 

  • Operate and optimize existing Cisco networks interconnecting multiple Data Centers with customer locations and the internet 

  • Configure custom security policies in existing Cisco ASA series firewalls to support customer VPNs and protect customer servers, in both stand alone and shared environments 

  • Configure MPLS services in existing MPLS backbone to interconnect customer locations with Data Center resources 

  • Configure customer facing network ports on existing Cisco network including T1, Multilink PPP T1, T3, Metro Ethernet, Ethernet; provide onsite support for testing and day one go-live 

  • Provide internal level 2 support of EIGRP and BGP routing 

  • Provide internal level 2 support of layer 2 switching 

  • Provide advanced technical direction and leadership to the lower level network administrators/engineers through the planning and implementation processes 

  • Ensures availability for rotating on call schedule 

  • Attends to obligations and supports other company initiatives as directed. 



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science. 

  • CCNP certification or higher knowledge. 

  • Advanced knowledge with 3-5 years experience in a high-performance datacenter with direct support and network services engineering responsibilities 

  • Hands on experience with the following: 

  • Cisco Switches 

  • Cisco Series Routers 

  • Various commonly used Cisco SCPE Hardware 

  • Knowledge of Low Voltage wiring standards preferred 

  • Proven experience with service provider protocols such as: 


  • 24x7 operations experience required
